How extensive have you been accumulating?

As with many collectors, I have liked jewellery my full daily life and my mom had a great jewelry assortment. I first grew to become interested in antique and classic jewellery when I was 13 many years aged and my mothers and fathers purchased me two antique rings for a special occasion from a fantastic jewellery retailer in Baltimore, wherever I grew up. I have been gathering jewelry a lot more significantly due to the fact about 4 years ago soon after my mother died.

Explain some of your beloved antique motifs that you obtain.

I come across putting on jewellery quite comforting, and I like the idea that sporting jewelry is kind of like wearing armor—that jewellery can have protecting features. And so, I appreciate antique, vintage, and present-day parts that have shields, protective fingers, swords or armor. I adore celestial items for the reason that they make me believe of my spouse who is a previous astronomer. And I appreciate hearts and initials, especially as they relate to my household.

What is it about jewellery that can make it your passion?

I feel jewellery is attractive, and I appreciate the electrical power I feel when I dress in some thing that is lovely and that has specific meaning for me. I love the treasure looking system and exploring for a seemingly hard-to-discover, a person-of-a-type piece that has massive symbolism and mixing it with the rest of my pieces.

Wherever do you like to come across antique jewellery? // Favourite position to treasure hunt?

When I very first started out seriously amassing jewelry, I enjoyed going to vintage demonstrates in the vicinity of where I reside in Southern California, these kinds of as A Present Affair, Pickwick Classic and the Delmar Antiques Present. As I have uncovered far more about jewelry and identified certain sellers whom I have faith in, I have ever more purchased extra pieces by using Instagram.

Do you have any parts that have an attention-grabbing story powering it?

One particular of my most specific parts of jewellery is a appeal my mother gave me for my 30th birthday. She took the middle diamond from my grandmother’s engagement ring and had it set in a white gold swirl with a lesser diamond from my grandmother’s ring at the end. The greater diamond represents the moon the smaller sized diamond a star. It is meant to depict a stating my mom generally explained to me: “Shoot for the moon, if you pass up you will be amid the stars.” My engagement ring—a spherical diamond with French cut sapphires around it (an Art Deco influenced concentrate on ring)—is linked to my wedding day song, “Fly Me to the Moon.” The diamond to me appears like a comprehensive moon floating in a darkish blue sky. Apparently more than enough the underbelly of my engagement ring has a Greek key motif. Absolutely unrelated, we finished up going to Greece on our honeymoon.

Most recent discover … most sentimental piece…something you wear day-to-day

My engagement ring, my marriage band, my mother’s wedding ceremony band, a Victorian diamond double snake ring, and a few signet rings—two on a person pinky—one a retro Tiffany signet ring with an armored arm/hand, sword with “fortitude” in Latin and a diamond defend signet ring from The Moonstoned. The third is an Edwardian, Tiffany platinum and sapphire signet ring with the initial B carved into it. Sapphire is my birthstone, the first is for my first title and my spouse calls me “B”.
